Authentic leadership from within
GET YOUR MIND RIGHT
Having a balanced mind, body, and spirit is critical to being your best authentic self and effective leader. According to the American Psychological Association, researchers theorize that mindfulness meditation promotes metacognitive awareness, decreases rumination via disengagement from perseverative cognitive activities and enhances attentional capacities through gains in working memory. These cognitive gains, in turn, contribute to effective emotion-regulation strategies.
High profile leaders such as Jeff Weiner (LinkedIn) and Bill Clay (Ford Motor Co) use meditation to improve productivity and business acumen. But you do not have to be a high profile leader to benefit from a mindfulness and meditation practice.
I have been on a mindfulness journey for several years but I was inconsistent. Seven Minute Meditation helped me get started. I began with their free 7 Day Mind and Soul Cleanse Workbook and before I knew it, the muscle was built and meditation became a habit.
There are many different journeys to mindfulness and balance. I recently began listening to Binaural Beats and have had some success A few benefits include:
increased focus and concentration
reduced stress
Increased relaxation
supports creativity
Whichever path you decide just know the effort will make you all the better.

Build a solid routine
Routine is key. I wake up at 4:30am each morning to begin the day. Having 2 hours of quiet alone time is critical to the success of my day. Many people say you should not begin your day with email--but I do. After my morning skin routine, I make coffee and sit down to read through various newsletters I requested.
I carve out a few moments of meditation usually as the sun begins to rise. Sunrise indicates the transition from silent reading to beginning the day. It starts with hair and make-up, followed by preparing breakfast for the family. I get in a little playtime with our fur baby and then the workday begins. Keeping this routine makes the rest of my hectic day more manageable.
This shirt came from Red Bay Coffee in the Bay Area. It is a Black owned business with a really cool vibe and very delicious coffee.
GET YOUR BODY RIGHT
Full transparency: I do not enjoy most physical fitness. Unless I am being chased by zombies, I do not run. Spending an hour on a treadmill erodes my soul. It isn't that I don't like to be physical--quite the opposite. I enjoy hiking, gardening, DIY projects, etc. I recently upgraded a hallway and let me say sanding floors is quite the workout.
Much like my mindfulness practice, I was lacking consistency. I enjoy several forms of yoga so I decided to try Yoga Burn. I am normally skeptical of Limited Time Offer types of products but a friend tried it out and thought it would be great for me--so, what the heck?
Quick Review: Overall it was a great fit for me. I enjoyed the phased approach and how it enabled me to build towards more strenuous yoga flows. I decided to get both digital downloads and the physical collection. Our internet service has been disrupted on may occasions so I wanted back up.
Yoga Burn helped me develop a routine that is convenient and self-paced which makes me more likely to continue the practice. I received a nominal fee for including this review--and I do mean nominal. But if you know me, you KNOW I don't suggest things that I do not find to be good quality.
GET YOUR SPIRIT RIGHT
Consistency is critical for a spiritual practice no matter which one you choose. It is easy to get caught up in the stress and details of the day and spiritual centering helps you be the best version of yourself amid the chaos.
